Job Description
Primary Scheduled Hours: 80 hours per pay period
Job Summary: Operates as a receptionist to outpatients and physicians coming into the department. Performs clerical duties such as typing forms, scheduling, answering phone calls, fulfilling imaging records requests, informs patient of any out-of-pocket cost, and logging daily patient work. Receives and transcribes requisitions, processes insurance authorizations and reviews them for completeness. Seeks assistance from a supervisor or technologist to prepare requisitions when a doctor’s order is not understood. Greets outpatients, schedules their appointments and gives patients the proper outpatient examination prep. Expedites the administrative requirements for patient referrals, dealing directly with referrals, doctors, and patient financial services.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs a wide variety of typing assignments, including requisitions, forms, etc.
Greets patients and families in a professional and caring manner.
Answers phones and returns phone calls in a timely, professional manner.
Assists in gathering information for the preparation of reports, patient tests, and billing.
Obtains appropriate demographic patient information, exam name, history, and ordering physician.
Able to schedule procedures and exams in the EHR.
Screen for and verify pre-authorization as needed.
Screen for medical necessity and issuing Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) as required.
Efficient use of hospital software including EHRs, EMRs, PACs, HCM, policy managers, event reporting and any other software required by the district to perform job duties.
Maintains the filing system in the department.
Maintain record keeping and filing system of reports and requisitions according to departmental policies. Classifies, sorts and files correspondence, records, and other documents accordingly.
Maintains department stock and orders supplies as needed.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Checks email at least once daily while on shift.
Familiar with downtime procedures and policies.
Recognizes and is required to open service tickets for non-operational equipment or fixtures.
Reports patient and/or employee concerns, incidents and/or safety events in a timely manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required Experience:
Must have computer related skills.
Must have the ability to multitask on many functions in an organized manner, which includes answering phones, scheduling exams, transcription, etc.
Must be able to understand written and oral instructions pertaining to scheduling and physician requests and previous medical terminology experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in an Imaging Department is preferred.
Working knowledge of insurance details, authorizations, copays, coinsurance and comfortable with relaying cost information to patients is preferred.
Experience with the following computer applications is highly desired: Stentor; EPIC; Microsoft Office; Internet/Intranet

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation in increments increases annually.
