Position Summary:
Provides high-quality preventive and therapeutic oral health services to patients of all ages within a community health setting. This position performs dental hygiene services, provides patient education, and promotes positive oral health outcomes while working collaboratively with the dental team to ensure compassionate, accessible, and patient-centered care. The Dental Hygienist also supports community outreach efforts and the overall mission of Knox Public Health and the Knox County Community Health Center.
Essential Functions:
Perform adult and child prophylaxis, including cleaning deposits and stains from teeth below the gumline
Place sealants
Take digital x-rays
Assist patients in feeling comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment
Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, nutritional counseling)
Enter and maintain patient information using the agency's electronic dental record system
Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and supervisors to ensure an informed atmosphere
Maintain supplies and cleanliness at all times
Adhere to office policies and procedures protocols
Provide assistance in other areas of the dental clinic when needed
Requirements:
Current licensure in Ohio as a licensed dental hygienist
A minimum of two years’ experience as a licensed dental hygienist is preferred however individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary License a plus
Requires exceptional hygienist, communication, computer and customer service skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced dental professionals
Commitment to providing exceptional patient care
