Responsibilities
Perform thorough dental prophylaxis, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent decay and gum disease.
Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary advice, and preventive care strategies to promote lifelong oral health.
Assist the dentist during procedures such as examinations, restorations, and other dental treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
Take and interpret medical imaging (such as X-rays) while adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records, treatment plans, medical histories, and clinical notes in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and managing medical records securely.
Requirements
Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current credentials.
Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments; familiarity with pediatric dentistry is a plus.
Proficiency with dental software systems such as Open Dental for documentation review and record keeping.
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and medical terminology.
Ability to perform chairside assisting duties efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care standards.
Experience with vital signs measurement, medical imaging techniques, and medical coding is desirable.
