Registered Dental Hygienist (Local or Traveler)– Taos, NM
BACKGROUND
The Indian Health Service (IHS), Taos–Picuris Service Unit (TPSU), provides comprehensive dental
services to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native beneficiaries. Work shall be performed onsite at
the Taos–Picuris Health Center, Dental Department, Taos, New Mexico.

SCOPE OF WORK
The Contractor shall furnish qualified Dental Hygienist personnel to provide preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services under the general supervision of a licensed dentist at the Taos–Picuris Health Center. Services shall be performed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, IHS policies, TPSU Dental Policies and Procedures, and professional standards of practice.

Services shall be provided for the following Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service (IHS) location:
Taos-Picuris Health Center

Taos, NM 87571
HOURS OF WORK
The Contractor shall provide services in an 8-hour shift scheduled within the Taos-Picuris Service Unit’s hours of operation, which are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays. The specific work schedule shall be coordinated with the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) based on clinic needs. The Contractor shall provide forty (40) hours of services per week. Each workday includes a one-half (½) hour unpaid lunch break.

CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Contractor shall ensure Dental Hygienists perform the following duties, as applicable:
Clinical Services
Perform dental prophylaxis (professional cleaning – removal of plaque, calculus and stains), scaling and root planning, oral debridement, periodontal assessments, oral cancer screenings, and radiographic procedures
Apply topical fluorides and other preventive agents
Apply pit and fissure sealants
Deliver locally delivered antimicrobials, to include prescribing, administering or dispensing therapeutic agents
Fabricate temporary restorations and clean/polish removable dental appliances as permitted
Administer local anesthesia
Identify and chart conditions of decay and periodontal disease
Assist with dental and medical emergencies within scope of practice
Prepare treatment rooms and patients in accordance with established protocols
Pay: From $58.00 per hour
