Job Description
Copper Ridge Surgery Center is an award-winning, multi-specialty outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) located in Traverse City. We are one of the largest ASCs in Michigan, servicing a large number of patients in our eight ORs and four procedures rooms.
We are currently seeking a Registration Receptionist to join the Front Desk Team in providing excellent customer service to our patients.
The surgery center is open from 5:45 am am to 6:00 pm. The Registration Receptionist needs flexibility at the start and end of the day to work various 8 hour shifts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Obtains/verifies insurance information and demographics to pre-register patients into the patient information system.
Greets patients and family members as soon as possible, with a smile.
Verifies/obtains accurate, complete demographic and insurance information and consents on patient charts.
Retrieves appropriate patient/guardian signatures on required forms.
Reviews and analyzes legal documents, such as Advance Directives or Guardianship papers, for information that pertains to patient care.
Creates accurate labels for charting and name band. Labels forms using established policy and procedure.
Ensures that patients and their family members receive adequate information regarding their surgical procedure, timing or other concerns. Help members of the community by answering questions or providing directions when possible.
Communicates arrival times and pertinent information so patients can arrive on time and prepared for their procedure.
Runs reports and distributes them to the appropriate departments.
Participates in chart preparation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality are maintained.
Accurately and efficiently distributes forms to appropriate areas at time of registration.
Receives payments from patients and follows corresponding procedure for collection.
Acts as a liaison between physician, pre-op, recovery room, operating rooms, waiting room and patients.
Participates in the Surgery Center’s Quality Improvement Program activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS
Excellent customer service skills
Detail oriented, ability to multi-task, and has strong organizational skills
Must be tactful, discreet, and capable of always maintaining confidentiality per CRSC patient privacy policies
Ability to work independently and efficiently
Effective verbal and communication skills that promote a caring, compassionate, dignified, and positive work environment. Listen attentively and seek clarification.
Demonstrated decision making skills.
Team oriented
Demonstrated effective problem solving and organizational skills, both individually and as a team.
Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations. Remain calm and caring at all times.
Ability to operate a computer, various software packages (preferably Microsoft Office), copy machine, fax machine, multiple line phone system and other machines as necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma
Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Experience in a medical office/healthcare setting preferred.
1+ years of customer service
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and talking.
Lifting and pushing of light to medium objects up to 25 lbs.
Ability to reach with hands and arms.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
