Join Our Team as a Release of Information (ROI) Specialist / Front Desk Receptionist!
Are you detail-oriented, customer-focused, and passionate about healthcare? We are looking for a Release of Information Specialist & Front Desk Receptionist to join our Medical Records team onsite in a large teaching hospital on the South Side of Chicago!
Job Responsibilities:
Front Desk Receptionist (Medical Records Department)
Greet patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience
Assist patients and customers with health information requests and general inquiries
Answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate department or personnel
Maintain an organized and efficient front desk area
Handle confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Other administrative duties as assigned, but not limited to the above
Perform accurate data entry and maintain records using hospital systems
Release of Information Specialist
Process requests for medical records, verifying authorization and legal compliance
Review documentation, including POAs, subpoenas, and court orders, to ensure validity
Utilize hospital systems (including Epic) to retrieve and manage patient information
Conduct quality checks on records prior to release
Complete fax requests for medical records and ensure timely distribution
Protect and maintain the confidentiality of patient medical records
Other related duties as assigned, but not limited to the above
Apply medical terminology knowledge to accurately process and validate record requests
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in medical records or healthcare (3+ years preferred)
Customer service background (2+ years required)
Receptionist or front desk experience preferred
Familiarity with Epic’s ROI Module (preferred)
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Proficiency in using office equipment (PC, copier, fax)
Knowledge of medical terminology (required)
Previous Release of Information (ROI) or medical office experience (preferred)
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must pass pre-employment testing per hospital requirements
Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and other required immunizations
Schedule & Status:
Full-time (FT)
Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Onsite position at UChicago Medicine
Compensation:
$16-$18 per hour, based on experience
