Job Summary
Job Summary: Job incumbent examines individuals requiring dental care and provides specialty treatment in the area of prosthodontics. Diagnoses patient’s dental conditions, develops treatment plans, and carries out, or directs others in carrying out appropriate therapy in conformance with approved evidence-based clinical practices as applied in a public-health setting. Educates dental program staff in the nature of prosthodontic procedures and management of related conditions.
Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Dental Services Director, job incumbent:
1. Examines, creates treatment plans, and treats oral diseases of hard and soft tissue within accepted therapeutic guidelines while practicing under individually determined privileges as directed by the Dental Director. Is expected to perform these services at the prosthodontic specialist level of care.
2. Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the medical/dental record (in an organized format utilizing standard nomenclature) so that the record accurately reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient, and the care provided. Completes referrals, data collection instruments and other records or paperwork as required.
3. Serves on medical/dental staff committees as assigned and participates in the quality assurance program of the center.
4. Assists in the provision of continuing education and on-the-job training, and orientation of center staff as requested.
5. Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
6. Adheres to all TCC infection control procedures and incident reporting. Maintains infection control procedures as outlined by Occupational Safety and Health Administration and CDC “guidelines for infection control in dental health-care settings.”
7. Adheres to all AAAHC standards in the delivery of dental services. Helps to ensure that organization will continue to meet all accreditation standards.
8. Strongly adheres to TCC policies with particular focus on the guiding principle of Ch’eghwtsen’ in all activities with both patients and peer employees.
9. Will work collaboratively with all TCC Dental staff to ensure success of Dental Program.
10. Participates in peer review activities as directed.
Other Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from an A.D.A. approved school of dentistry.
2. Successful completion of residency training at an ADA approved Prosthodontic residency with receipt of a completion certificate.
3. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, and practices of supervision of dental auxiliaries and the ability to apply them.
2. CPR certification.
3. Strong verbal, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Supervision: Job incumbent is under the general supervision of the Dental Director. The clinical work of the incumbent is expected to be definitive and is evaluated through the Quality Assurance Program.
Supervision
Physical demands: Position requires long periods of sitting, standing, recurring bending, stooping, crouching, stretching, and reaching. Job incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds in support of equipment/other. Patients may be required to be lifted bodily from time to time. Travel to remote villages may be required. May be subject to harsh environmental conditions while performing field dental visits to villages. The conditions include but are not limited to: travel by small, unpressurized aircraft, 4WD suburban or van, lack of running water, poor heat, field equipment breaking down and incumbent expected to improvise, and extreme weather conditions. Handles contaminated and uncontaminated needles on a regular basis.
Work environment: Work involves regular and recurring exposure to potential hazards of radiation, communicable diseases (including TB, Hepatitis, AIDS), adverse weather, occasionally hostile patients, various dental materials (including mercury), and dental power equipment. Field/village travel is required in order to provide dental care to TCC beneficiaries in the outlying areas.

Summation: Job incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
