Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) for a 14-week travel contract in Augusta, Georgia. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of sterile processing experience, strong knowledge of surgical instrument reprocessing, and hands-on experience with Steris sterilization equipment, Stryker VP4 machines, and specialized decontamination equipment.

This role supports a busy surgical services department and requires expertise in instrument decontamination, inspection, tray assembly, sterilization, and quality control. Candidates must have previous travel assignment experience; first-time travelers will not be accepted.

Requirements
Minimum 3 years of Sterile Processing experience
Previous travel assignment experience required
Strong experience with surgical instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization
Experience with Steris steam sterilizers and Stryker VP4 machines
Hands-on experience with Steris and Belimed ultrasonic washers
Experience operating Steris cart washers and washer-disinfectors
Experience processing flexible cystoscopes
Knowledge of sterilization monitoring, biological and chemical indicators, and Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS)
Ability to follow written instructions, manage multiple tasks, and maintain accurate documentation
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Ability to serve as a preceptor for new employees and fellow team members
Responsibilities
Perform thorough decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment
Assemble surgical instrument sets and trays accurately according to established standards and procedure requirements
Prepare case carts and ensure surgical instruments and supplies are available when needed
Operate and monitor Steris steam sterilizers, Stryker VP4 machines, ultrasonic washers, cart washers, and washer-disinfectors
Process flexible cystoscopes and other specialized surgical instruments according to manufacturer instructions
Monitor and document sterilization cycles, biological indicators, chemical indicators, and equipment performance
Perform Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS) when appropriate and according to established protocols
Maintain accurate equipment and sterilization documentation using the SPM system
Follow infection prevention practices and applicable sterile processing standards
Maintain quality standards, including a monthly bioburden error rate of 0.1% or less and an average tray volume of 20 trays per day, based on approximately 100 instruments per tray
Collaborate with perioperative nursing staff to support safe and timely surgical procedures
Maintain an efficient workflow while processing instruments for a busy operating room handling approximately 25–40 cases and 224 trays daily
Float between sterile processing areas as needed
Provide guidance, training, and support to new employees and team members
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Pay: $1,050.00 - $1,150.00 per week
