The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking an experienced Massachusetts-licensed dentist to serve as a Supervising Dentist & Clinical Mentor Consultant. This consulting role provides clinical mentorship, regulatory oversight, and direct patient care while supporting foreign-trained dentists, dental residents, and students practicing within a community health setting.

Working closely with the Director of Dental Services, the consultant will help ensure compliance with Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID) regulations while promoting high-quality, evidence-based dental care. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and supporting the professional development of dental providers serving diverse and underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the designated clinical mentor and consultant for limited license dentists in accordance with Massachusetts BORID regulations.

Provide clinical consultation, treatment planning guidance, and oversight to support safe, ethical, evidence-based dental care.

Mentor foreign-trained dentists, dental residents, and students through coaching, education, and professional development.

Conduct chart reviews, peer reviews, case discussions, and clinical competency assessments.

Observe clinical procedures and provide constructive feedback to improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.

Ensure compliance with BORID regulations, OSHA standards, CDC infection control guidelines, and Department of Public Health requirements.

Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, patient safety, and risk management activities.

Collaborate with the Director of Dental Services on onboarding, competency evaluations, and ongoing clinical development of limited license practitioners.

Assist in maintaining high standards of clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and culturally responsive patient care.

Qualifications:
DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.

Active, unrestricted Massachusetts dental license.

Current DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or the ability to obtain prior to start.

At least 3-5 years of clinical dentistry experience, including significant experience practicing in Massachusetts.

Strong knowledge of Massachusetts BORID regulations governing limited license dentists.

Demonstrated experience mentoring, supervising, coaching, or teaching dentists, residents, students, or other dental professionals.

Experience in public health, community health centers, academic dentistry, or residency training programs strongly preferred.

Experience caring for medically complex and underserved patient populations preferred.
