Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Dental Assistant to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional chairside assistance during surgical procedures, ensure strict infection control protocols, and support the overall operation of the dental practice. This role requires a thorough understanding of dental assisting techniques, medical documentation, and patient care within a fast-paced clinical environment. Experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, and Epic is highly preferred, along with knowledge of HIPAA regulations and pediatric dentistry practices. The Surgical Dental Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality dental care while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
Duties
Assist the dentist during surgical procedures including implant placements, extractions, and other complex surgeries
Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment following aseptic techniques
Take X-rays and other medical imaging as needed for diagnosis and treatment planning
Manage patient records using EMR system ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after procedures
Apply dental terminology accurately to document procedures and communicate effectively with team members
Perform chairside assisting
Educate patients on post-operative care instructions and answer any questions regarding procedures or recovery
Maintain infection control standards by adhering to OSHA guidelines and sterilization protocols
Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and managing medical coding for billing purposes
Assist with the use of advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and other imaging tools specific to prosthodontics, endodontics, or general dentistry
Requirements
Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with knowledge of surgical assisting procedures in a dental clinic setting
Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; experience with medical documentation is a plus
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security
Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately while maintaining safety standards for patients and staff
Experience in pediatric dentistry is advantageous but not mandatory
Certification in dental assisting or related field preferred; additional training in medical coding or advanced imaging is a plus
Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages including pediatrics
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
