Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, compassionate, and energetic Surgical Assistant to join our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice. This role is essential in supporting our surgeons and ensuring every patient receives safe, high-quality care. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment with multiple office locations. Dental or surgical assisting experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual who demonstrates a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and maintain surgical treatment rooms, equipment, and instrument trays according to OSHA and CDC infection-control standards.
· Assist surgeons chairside during a variety of procedures, including extractions, implants, bone grafts, biopsies, and IV sedation cases.
· Monitor patients during procedures as directed, ensuring comfort and safety.
· Provide clear, compassionate pre- and post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers.
· Support surgeons and fellow team members by anticipating needs and maintaining efficient patient flow throughout the day.
· Restock surgical rooms and prepare equipment and trays for upcoming procedures.
· Update patient charts and assist with documentation of treatment notes.
· Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education to enhance clinical skills and support practice growth.
· Coordinate with team members across multiple office locations to ensure schedules and supplies are aligned for upcoming surgical days.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Prior dental or surgical assisting experience preferred; oral surgery experience a plus.
· X-ray experience and certification strongly preferred.
· Current CPR/BLS certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered focus.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced clinical setting.
· Flexibility to travel between multiple practice locations as needed.
· Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
· Occasional lifting of equipment or supply boxes up to 25-50 lbs.
· Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to handle surgical instruments safely.
Schedule
· Full-time, Monday–Friday, 4-5 days per week, with occasional early mornings or extended hours depending on surgical schedules.
· Travel between multiple office locations required.
